Being pregnant is the strangest and yet coolest thing ever...

Today I realized that it is not smart for a pregnant lady to go grocery shopping.... EVERYTHING in the store looked and smelled incredible. Then I went outside and got a wiff of somebody's greasy french fries and remembered how good that stuff tastes! Luckily, we haven't budgeted for that kind of thing this week so I'm now at home drinking milk and munching on fruit instead. I'm starting to try things that I never ate before pregnancy. For example, I found out that baked potatoes have some sort of nutrients in them that are good for developing babies so guess what is on the menu for this week! Yea, I'm going to try eating a baked potato. Perhaps I'll top it with some cheese and broccoli to make it more like broccoli and cheese and less like a baked potato. :)
We had our first ultrasound last Thursday and found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant! My due date is May 26th, which at the moment seems pretty far away except when I think about all the things that need to be done in order to prepare for a baby! ... I don't even have the first clue where to start. I don't have any idea what a baby needs! I'm lucky to have so many lovely people around me that have already had children and therefore can show me the oh so scary-looking ropes. We've gotten lots of advice already, and probably the best was not to forget about eachother - cherish these last few months as a family of two because it will all change. I feel like our first week of knowing we're pregnant has been all about telling everyone and figuring out what to eat and how to sleep... oh and jetting off to the bathroom every 5 seconds.
I had cramps pretty bad at the beginning of the week (doctor says that was from the bursting of my cysts - pretty normal), but they've actually subsided and I'm afraid have made way for nasea to settle in. Today has been my first day of a little bit of a queasy stomach. I've gotten great advice to eat a little every couple hours and that has actually helped. I'm also going to try lying down and watching movies for the rest of the morning while I wait for my husband to get home from work (I think our baby would want me to do that-he will love movies).
Tonight we will be having dinner with family again (people love to feed pregnant ladies) and hope for a pretty early night sleep. So far pregnancy is the coolest thing I think I have experienced in my whole entire life!

A New Blessing

This week Tyler and I found out that we are having a baby! We've been trying for about a month, and the doctor thinks I am 6 weeks pregnant... interesting :)
It is such a beautiful blessing from God because I have something called PCOS which means that my ovaries produce too much testosterone and could form cysts (I think). The doctor said it is usually difficult for a woman with PCOS to get pregnant and on top of that I was only allowed to be off birth control for a month because the treatment for PCOS is to be on birth control so that my ovaries won't produce too many hormones.
ANYWAY, all of that to say... a couple months ago we prayed and asked God if now was when He wanted us to have a baby, and we really felt like He was telling us to go ahead and try...so we did... and He blessed us! Against all odds! :) God is good. And now I have a little tiny baby the size of a lentil growing inside my uterus. It's fun to think about! I will try to keep this blog updated with my thoughts (as they are currently waking me up at ridiculous hours of the morning) and our baby's development.
YAY!
